    Warning:

Do not include any personal information (name, email, phone) in the signature. It will be publicly visible to any visitors to the forum!

When the box in your profile is checked (the software seems to use the words account, profile and settings interchangeably)
your current signature will show at the bottom of any and all of your posts, regardless of its setting at the time you posted.
This is a runtime parameter. Neither the check box state nor the contents of the signature are stored with individual posts.

Note also that the checkbox "Show signatures" will also determine whether or not other users' signatures (i.e., all signatures) will be seen while you are viewing.

Yes, it seems strange, especially that signatures are automatically revealed to unregistered guests and to users who are not signed in. Apparently it is beyond our control.
