  • Slightly OT but maybe someone has some advice

Nearly 2 months ago I had a TURP. Unfortunately I still haven't seen much benefit in increased stream, lessening of frequency and even occasional urgency. My uro had told me that recovery can take up to 6 weeks. All I can say to the good is that I'm getting up 3-4 times during the night instead of 6-8, and MAYBE my daytime trips to the bathroom are down a bit.

If anyone reading this has had a TURP I'd love to hear about your experience!

    Thanks,
    David

Hi David. Sorry I can't offer any specific advice. I had an excellent result from my TURP: prostate size was reduced from about 90 cc to 30 cc and my stream was immediately great, so I'm not familiar with "next steps." What has your uro said/offered since the 6 weeks has passed? If he has nothing to offer, I would consider another uro (at least for a consult, if not a switch).

I don't know if the Urolift procedure is/can be done after a TRUP, and what the benefit might be or the minimum time between the two, but it could merit a question to a uro who has experience with the procedure.

I haven't see the video, but I get this page when I google "Urolift after TURP".

Of course, since you have low-grade PC, you might consider an RP at this point if you reach a point where you are out of other options.

    Best of luck,

    Djin

Thanks, Djin. I think my uro must be on vacation so I'm not rushed. In our first post-op discussion he mentioned the possibility of either flomax or mirabegron, while still acknowledging that he didn't see anything in my bladder to make him think I have OAB. So we'll see what he says when he returns.

Thanks for doing that research too. I did have a Urolift 3 years ago (in fact he took out 3 of the clips during the TURP, one of which had become encrusted) and it did no good.

      Oh well.
